Using Your Canvas Sandbox
What is the purpose of a Sandbox?
In GCISD, we provide teachers with Sandboxes to store course curriculum. Because rostered courses are created and archived every year, building your curriculum outside the rostered course is important so that you don't have to reinvent it every year. Our solution: The Sandbox!
What can I do with a Sandbox?
A Sandbox has all of the capabilities of a regular course shell; it just doesn’t have any students enrolled. Sandboxes can create course content such as modules, pages, assignments, discussions, and quizzes. A Sandbox is a great place to experiment with different settings, such as notification settings, module prerequisites and requirements, and advanced features like third-party app integrations. We recommend building your course in a Sandbox and copying the content into your published course shell when ready. One benefit of this method is that the Sandbox can serve as a backup course with copies of all content. It also limits the issues of broken links and images in the future because it is the placement of the original content.
The onset of a new semester can be a tense period for teachers. Fortunately, one major part is swift and straightforward: Copying your Canvas course into a new shell. With just a bit of preparation, you can seamlessly transfer your course to the new semester; the procedure typically takes 10 minutes! Check out these articles:
Note: Students should not be enrolled in these courses. Teachers are limited to only one Sandbox per subject they teach. Let us know if you need any help with course management. If you need a manually created course to enroll students, you will need to go ahead and state this in a Help Desk ticket request.
How do I get a Sandbox?
Teachers can request a Sandbox for every subject they teach. To get a Sandbox, submit a Help Desk ticket. Please let me know if you need more than one and the name of each course you teach.
